John Richard Gibson

John Richard Gibson, 68, of Rockingham County, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his home.

Born on February 25, 1957 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, John was a beloved father to his two children Carter and Jordan. He was the son of the late Clarence Gibson and Betty Jo (Critzer) Kuykendall.

John was a talented hair dresser with a loyal clientel who owned his own shop for over 35 years. He also served his country as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in the United States Air Force.

He loved being outdoors, camping, hiking, and being on the river, but his most favorite of all was fishing at the beach.

He was a gifted painter, an excellent cook, and had an intense passion for music.

John is survived by his two daughters, Carter Gardner and husband Preston, and Jordan Harris and husband Dustin; a brother, Gerald Gibson and wife Patti; two sisters, Sharon Gibson and fiancé Mike Rankin and Jackie Morris; six grandchildren, Ryan Gardner, Kendall Gardner, Ruby Harris, Ivy Harris, Avery Harris, and Atley Harris; four nieces, Holly Hammer, Lisa Filler, Enga Knicely, and Nakia Garrison; and two nephews, TJ Morris and Eddie Ray Garrison.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Pike.

A funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater with Chaplain David Kite officiating.
