John R. Miller
CHURCHVILLE – John Reuben Miller, 94, beloved husband of Joyce Hevener Miller, died Saturday (October 25, 2025) in his home, surrounded by dear family and friends.
Born June 3, 1931 in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Norman and Mamie (Achenbach) Miller.
John was a U.S. Army veteran who served as a medic on the front lines of the Korean War. He was a member of Staunton VFW Post 2216.
He worked as a truck driver, hauling milk and gas in his early years, and later for the Potomac Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was employed by Hevener Construction for 35 years, and was a school bus driver for Augusta County Schools for over 20 years before fully retiring.
John was a member of Staunton Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was heavily involved in the construction of the current church building, and served the church family as a deacon, Sabbath school leader and Bible study teacher for many years. John was also an antique tractor enthusiast with an unquenchable passion for tractor pulling, collecting, and celebrating all-things tractor. He was a member of Western Augusta Steam and Gas.
John was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Miller Sr.; and a sister, Naomi Spears.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Joyce Hevener Miller, whom he married on July 1, 1956; a daughter, Jeannetta Bosley and husband Randall “Randy” of Churchville; grandson Logan Bosley and wife Avery of Churchville; nephews Arthur Miller Jr., Douglas Miller, and Earl Kilpatrick; niece Grezel McGinnis; many more nieces and nephews by marriage; and a precious great-grandchild who is on the way.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29 in Staunton Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiated by Pastor Dan Darrikhuma. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Logan Bosley, Larry Sheffer, Barry and Darin Hevener, Carl Moyers, Richard “Dickie” Hevener II, Jerry McGinnis, and Douglas Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Grezel McGinnis, , Earl Kilpatrick, Steve Smith, Calvin Ratcliff, Horace Wimmer Jr., Luke Hevener, Daniel Hernandez, Sadie Hevener, Mia Hevener, Tim Hevener, Rick Shull, Donald Wright and Rolando Vergara.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the church.
