John Hunter Gum
John Hunter Gum, Jr., age 62, of Waynesboro went home to be with Jesus on August 31, 2024.
John was originally from Churchville and after obtaining his GED, he attended Blue Ridge Community College. He was a two time published author of poetry and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy Carpenter Lynn Gum; brother Edward Lynn Gum and wife Joan, of Waynesboro; step-nephew, Jody Collins; Uncle and Aunt, Eddie and Patricia Lynn; Josiah Ray and Ryleigh Grace, his special angels; numerous cousins and step nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Hunter Gum, Sr.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Joan, Jeanetta, Hugh, and Leslie with whom he danced, and his special cousin, Teresa, who supplied him with his favorites from Wendy's. In addition the family would like to thank Drs. Kane and Puzio, along with his Hospice care team, Amy, Nicole, Megan, Matt, and Loreal, and acknowledge V.A.I.L for their support.

Friends and family may visit Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater, on Tuesday, September 3rd, between 10 AM and 5 PM, to sign the book.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at St. Paul Cemetery with Pastor Jim Harris officiating.
