James " Jim" B. Allen

July 14, 1938 - January 2, 2026

James “Jim” B. Allen, 87, of Waynesboro, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 2, 2026. Born on July 14, 1938, in Stotesbury, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Aubrey Warren Allen and Delores Adean (Blackburn) Allen.

Jim proudly served in the United States Navy and later retired from the Washington Gas Light Company. He also dedicated part of his life to public service as a Councilmember for the Town of Riverdale, Maryland. A man of strong faith, Jim was a devoted member of Raphine Christian Church.

He was an avid football fan and enjoyed playing golf, visiting casinos, and spending time with his family and friends. His humor, warmth, and easygoing spirit made him a joy to be around.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Marie (Nelson) Allen; his brother, Steve; and his sisters, Carol Atkins and Sarah Hall.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Elsie Adean Freeman of Louisiana and Erik Nelson Allen of Huntingtown, Maryland; six brothers: Rock, Charles, Jerry, Juddy, Mike, and Tony and sister Audrey; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Raphine Christian Church, 5131 Lee Jackson Hwy, Greenville, VA, with Pastor John M. Ward officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his church family for their prayers, to the staff of Augusta Health Hospice Shenandoah for their compassionate care, and to friends Hal Christsen, Frank Martin, and the staff and customers of McDonald’s and Golden Corral for their kindness and support.
