James Eugene Dewitt

James Eugene DeWitt, 91, of Fishersville, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the Shenandoah House of Augusta Health.

He was born on February 24, 1933, and was a son of the late James and Ruth (Shoemaker) DeWitt.

James retired from GE/Genicom, and attended Mount Bethel Church in Crimora. He had a passion for hunting, photography, and sports.

James was united in marriage to Judy (Cash) DeWitt, who survives.

He is also survived by his previous marriage, Cleo Compbell; three children, Denise DeWitt, Bernice DeWitt-Witul, and Faith (Ed) Alderfer; step-son, Cody Harris; sister-in-law, Shirley DeWitt; daughter-in-law, Trish O'Brian Dewitt; six grandchildren, Alex Clark, Jess Hayden, Jodi Stohlmamn, Dakota DeWitt, Caden Painter, and Walker Harris; five great-grandchildren, Alexander Clark, Brooks Hayden, Scout Hayden, Lincoln Stohlmamn, and Vaughn Stohlmamn; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jay DeWitt; brother, Robert "Bob" DeWitt; sisters, Katherine Furst and Connie Holton; great-grandson, Miles Stohlmamn.

A service celebrating James's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2 PM at Mount Bethel Church, with Pastor Ansel Seeds officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
