James Ballowe

November 5, 1932 - July 26, 2024

James Ray Ballowe, Sr., 91, of Strasburg, VA passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center, Winchester, VA. 

Mr. Ballowe was born in Tucker County, WV on November 5, 1932, a son of the late James William and Mary Alfreda Ashby Ballowe.  He attended James Wood High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean War.  Mr. Ballowe retired from Lantz Construction Company and was a long-time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg.  He loved farming, animals, camping, and the beach.  Mr. Ballowe was a former member of the Lions Club, Ruritan Club and Shenandoah Sams.  He served in various community service projects including the Empty Stocking program.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Janet Lee Himelright Ballowe; a sister Alice Burcham; brothers-in-law Frederick Wisecarver, Paul Burcham, and James Himelright along with a nephew David Keeler.

Survivors include his children James Ray Ballowe, Jr. (Peggy) of Fort Valley, Terry Allan Ballowe (Peggy T) of Edinburg, VA, and Lynda Ballowe (Bill Hart) of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren Moriah Creech, Jadah Ballowe., and Sonya Broadway; his great-grandchildren Eli, Baylen, Howie, Lorelai, Skylar, Kodah, Ryatt, Joe, Samuel, Jasper, and Isaac; his special grandcat Miss Gray; a brother John; sisters Joan and Ragland; sisters-in-law Sara and Gloria along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Ballowe will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Strasburg, VA with Rev. Chris Flohr officiating.  Mr. Ballowe will be laid to rest privately.  The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
