Ida Cleckley
Ida Lou Cleckley departed this life and went to rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 8, 2026. She leaves to carry on her memories her daughters, Annie R. Bryant and Audrey L. Deese and son, James E. Bryant; granddaughters, Toyia L. Bryant, Akida L. Deese-Mayfield (Tony Mayfield), and Jennifer D. Bryant; grandsons, Sean M. Brown, Alvin R. Deese, III and Brian C. Deese-Baker;13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ida was born April 9th, 1930, to the late Savannah Harvey and George Harris in Tuskegee, Alabama. After living in San Antonio, Texas for a few years, she relocated to Washington, DC, where she met and married William T. Cleckley, who preceded her in death, along with her sons, Alvin R. Deese II, Herbert Bryant and 14 of her siblings. Early in her career, she worked at the Smithsonian Institute Air and Space Museum upon its inception as the building manager, a role she held until her retirement. Her time there not only showcased her professional dedication but also left a lasting impression on her colleagues.
Her unwavering support of family took her all over the country, as she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. If you needed her, she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and generosity made her a beloved friend to many.
Following Ida’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.
