Henry Edward Grochowski
Henry Edward Grochowski, age 90, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away at Summit Square Nursing Home in Waynesboro on August 3, 2024. He was born November 17, 1933--son of the late Bronislaw and Anna Leysa Grochowski. Henry was incredibly resilient and ambitious. After the death of his mother, he joined the US Navy at age 16 and proudly served his country aboard the USS Wisconsin as a gunner. He later graduated from Edinboro College in Edinboro, PA, and received a Masters in Education from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. He went on to teach high school History and English in West Seneca, NY, for over twenty-five years, where he and his lifelong love and wife Carol (Paluh) raised their four children.
Upon retirement in 1990, Henry and Carol moved to the Shenandoah Valley, where he was a well-loved member of the Elks Club and Summit Square communities.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife Carol (2003), as well as sisters Josephine Rowa, Alfreda Gruzca, Virginia Stolinski, Florence Maciulewicz, Esther Deutch, Bernice Figurski; brothers Frank, William and Carl Aleskiewicz and Raymond Grochowski, and his beloved sister MaryAnn Tusynski.
Henry will be lovingly remembered by his family, including daughters Linda (Audelo), Sandra, Janet (Ball) and son Steven, as well as grandchildren Michael Audelo and Frances Hutchison.
