Glenn Edward Myers

Glenn Edward Myers, husband of the late Florence “Flossie” Myers, passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the age of 97. At the time of his passing, he was a resident of the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes in Stuarts Draft, Virginia.

Glenn was the son of the late John and Kathryn Myers and was born on April 19, 1927 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Navy on August 1, 1945 and served aboard the USS Hancock (CV-19) in the Pacific during the latter stage of World War II and was involved in bringing troops home after the war ended. Glenn was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Seaman Second Class on June 4th, 1946. He later served in the United States Naval Reserves from September 4, 1952 to September 3, 1956. Glenn graduated from Waynesboro High School (Virginia) in 1947 and was a member of the football and basketball teams.

After high school Glenn went on to work at E.I. Dupont (Waynesboro, Virginia) at which he was promoted from pipe fitter, to craft analyst for project and design, to project group supervisor, and ultimately to maintenance supervisor. After 37 years of dedicated service, he retired from Dupont on May 1, 1985.

Glenn married the love of his life, Florence “Flossie” Gwendolyn Klutz, on July 9, 1949 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, Virginia. They shared many wonderful times together which included camping, trips to Myrtle Beach and the Hawaiian Islands, square dancing, playing bridge, bowling, and most importantly, being involved in the lives of their children and numerous grandchildren. It was rare to see them apart and together they brought a tremendous amount of joy to a lot of people over their many years together.

Recreation and sports brought a great deal of enjoyment to Glenn. In addition to playing high school football and basketball, he played on the church softball team, was part of a bowling league, participated in the Dupont City Basketball League, and played one year of semi-professional football. Glenn was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in many of the rivers and lakes in the Shenandoah Valley.

Glenn truly had the heart of a servant.  He served his surrounding community as: board member and president of Stoney Creek Resort and Campground, officer on the Dupont Pensioner Association, co-chairman of the Entertainment Committee and the Experiment in Teenage Behavior at the Dupont Recreation Hall, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10826 in Verona, Virginia. Glenn was also a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, Virginia where he served the Lord and the congregation numerous ways, which included, serving as an usher, engaging in stewardship, and helping with meals-on-wheels.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Flossie Myers and is survived by his daughter Glenna Hale and husband Bill and his daughter Terrie Snyder and husband Denny; grandchildren Chase Hale and wife Ada, Tara Snyder, Nathan Hale and wife Charity, and Krista Hailey and husband Junior; great-grandchildren Makiah Bannan, Taryn Barrett, Taylor Barrett, Jay Johnson, Jakai Johnson, Charlie Hale, Stella Hale, Kaleb Blackwell, Mason Hale, Eliza Hale, Maddox Hale, Mallory Hale, Ayden Hailey, and Alexa Hailey; and great-great-grandchildren Charlee Bannan, Kristian Bannan, and Jaxson Bannan.

He was greatly loved and will be missed, but his family takes great comfort in knowing that Glenn is home with the Lord Jesus Christ. A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, Virginia on Friday November 8, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
