Geraldine "Gerry" Elizabeth Flannery
Geraldine (Gerry) Elizabeth Flannery (Ostrander), 84, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Sentara RMH.
Gerry was born on October 15, 1940, and was a daughter of the late Clarence Clifford Ostrander, Sr. and Bertha (Roupp) Ostrander.
For 29 years she was employed as a Dairy Lab Technician for Eastern Laboratory in Waverly, PA until she retired in 2006.
Gerry resided in Canton with her longtime companion, Jack Bedford, prior to moving to Mercer.
She was united in marriage on July 16, 2016 to William "Bill" Flannery who preceded her in death on February 12, 2024.
Gerry of Mercer, PA, had recently moved to Virginia to live with her granddaughter and family.
To her family she was known as Mother, Gram, and Aunt Sis and her family was her top priority. Being closely surrounded by a big family offered several opportunities for her to spend time with every grandchild and even the great grandchildren. Her house was never empty, always full of love, family and food, where everybody was always welcome. Fond memories were made, especially during Christmas. "Gram" will always be remembered for hiding the Christmas tree behind the room full of gifts. It was never a surprise when you opened a gift that was not yours because of a mislabeled tag.
She looked forward to traveling to Virginia to visit her daughter, granddaughter and family and always said she was moving to the South.
Her favorite pastimes were entertaining shopping trips and choosing the perfect restaurant. In her earlier years she was active on a bowling league and watching her grandchildren. More recently, she traveled with her late husband, Bill, to Texas, Florida and an Alaskan Cruise. Together they spent time with friends at the VFW where they enjoyed drinks and dancing.
Gerry is survived by daughters, Wendy (Ricky Whetzel) Rosson and Gerrie Barrett; grandchildren, Jamie (John) McDorman, Michael (Holly) Shultz, Christopher (Kristin) Leitner, Matthew Barrett; great-grandchildren, Mason Shultz, Callie McDorman, Colton McDorman, Haleigh Shultz, Holden Leitner, Hendrix Leitner; sister, Linda (Fred) Richter; sister in law, Joan Ostrander; step-daughter, Becky Flannery; her beloved service dog, Max; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Harold "Sonny" Ostrander, Howard Ostrander, Clarence (JR) Ostrander, Jr., Robert "Bob" Ostrander, son in law George Rosson and son in law Brian Barrett, and longtime companion, Jack Bedford.
Services will be held at a later date.
