Colonel George William "Bill" Lockridge, 96, of Fishersville, died on Monday, August 12, 2024, at The Retreat at Fishersville.He was born May 18, 1928, in Augusta County, Virginia, a son of the late Howard Luther and Adele Grove (Key) Lockridge.Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served as a medic.Prior to retirement, Mr. Lockridge was self-employed as an auctioneer and farmer. Besides his love of farming, he was an avid hunter and storyteller.He was a member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Goldie Lee Snyder Lockridge; his brothers; Bobby Key (Mary Ellen) Lockridge, Ronnie Lee Lockridge; his sisters; Margaret Ella Lockridge (Hugh) Ewing, Betty Lee Lockridge (Matt) Jewett; and his brother-in-law, William L. Henderson.He is survived by his sister Nancy Jane Lockridge Henderson; his sister-in-law, Diane Lockridge; his caregivers, Tom and Sherry Snyder, Mike Snyder, and Walter Altizer; and his many nieces and nephews.The family would like to especially thank all of Bill's caregivers over the past four years, including his "farm ladies," the staff at The Retreat at Fishersville, and staff at the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fishersville with the Reverend Merle Fisher officiating.
