George Fields Hartsook

August 14, 1950 - July 28, 2024

George Fields Hartsook, 73, husband of Patricia Ann Hartsook, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville.
Mr. Hartsook was born in Staunton, Virginia on August 14, 1950, a son of the late John Calvin Hartsook and Helen Mae (Stoner) Hartsook.
George was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an MP, and retired from the United States Postal Service. A devout Christian, Mr. Hartsook had an unwavering love for the Lord and a deep knowledge of the Bible.
His greatest pride and joy were his two sons and, later, his grandchildren, with whom he loved to play and create memories. He was a devoted family man whose love knew no bounds.
An avid basketball enthusiast, George was known for his "sweet jump shot" and held the mile record in middle school. He also dedicated much of his time when his boys were young to coaching little league sports.
Music was another of George’s great loves. He spent many years performing in a band, delighting in "oldies" music from the 60s and 70s. He made a special effort to learn "This Magic Moment" for his wife, a song that was a symbol of their enduring love.
Mr. Hartsook was also an avid reader, with a particular fondness for Louis L’Amour novels.
While he might not have been business savvy, his generosity and "heart savvy" defined him. His kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hartsook was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Mae Wright; and his dear mother and father-in-law, who held a special place in his heart, Freddie and Edith Gilbert.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, are two sons, Matt Hartsook and his wife, Heather, and Ryan Hartsook and his wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Hannah Schmucker, Alex Hartsook and Ethan Hartsook; a beloved sister-in-law, Darlene Yeago; numerous nieces and nephews including Jeremy Yeago, Ashley Brown, Jordan Long and their families; four brothers, John “Bobby” Hartsook and his wife, Susan, Lyle Hartsook, Sr. and his wife, Judy, James Hartsook and his wife, Jeannette, and William Hartsook and his wife, Robin; two sisters, Betty Lou Howdyshell and Hope Fitzgerald; and his furry friends “Teddy” and “Benji”.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 in Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor Bobby Campbell.
