George David Jordan
George David Jordan, 86, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Born on May 17, 1939, George was a lifelong resident of Staunton and a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, where he was both a football player and a cheerleader. In high school, he was also voted “friendliest”, a title that reflected the warmth and kindness that would define his life.
He spent over 40 years working as a machinist at the DuPont facility in Waynesboro and served as Secretary /Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of DuPont Workers, where he was admired for his dedication, integrity, and leadership.
Beyond his professional life, George was best known for his love of square dancing. As a beloved caller and teacher, he shared his enthusiasm and talent across Virginia and West Virginia for more than 35 years, including several appearances at the Virginia State Square Dance Convention. His friendly spirit, humor, and generosity earned him friends everywhere he went.
He and his wife of 37 years, Sandra Jordan, shared a deep love of travel, with memorable journeys to the Panama Canal, Egypt, and China and other parts of the world and U.S. At home, George was an active member of the community—volunteering as a driver for the Gypsy Hill Express train and giving his time at Augusta Health. He found great joy in the companionship of his cats, Domino and Daisy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Jordan; daughters, Dorothy Axelson, Terry Dawson, Samantha Bishop, and Katherine Boland; son, David Jordan; step-sister, Billie Lee Quigley, as well as many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephew.
