Gene "Ray" Raymond Ergenbright
Gene Raymond “Ray” Ergenbright, 76, husband of Carol Mae Ergenbright, of Fox Hill Place in Staunton, claimed the promise of the resurrection on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at his residence.
Mr. Ergenbright was born in Staunton, Virginia on May 16, 1948, a son of the late Charles William Ergenbright and Nellie Jane (Clatterbaugh) Ergenbright.
Ray proudly served as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a dedicated member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, as well as the Elks, the Staunton-Augusta Lions Club, the Verona Moose, and the Convention of States. Professionally, Ray was self-employed as an auditor for the City of Harrisonburg and Augusta County and was deeply involved in his community, serving on numerous local boards.
For over 17 years, he owned and operated Ray’s Shop and Save. He lived his life with clear priorities—putting God first, followed by his love for family, friends, and community.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ergenbright was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Lee Ergenbright; a brother, Joe David Ergenbright; and a sister, Bonnie Gail Thomas.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, is a daughter, Caryn Denise Ergenbright of Staunton; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lee Davidson and her husband, Dillon and Charles Brenden Ergenbright; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Lane Davidson and Callie Wren Davidson; a brother, Roger Wayne Ergenbright and his wife, Patty of Churchville; two sisters, Lindy (Ergenbright) Gough and her husband, Marion of Swoope and Sharon (Ergenbright) Buchanan and her husband, Mac of Rich Valley, VA; a brother-in-law, Buddy Thomas; three sisters-in-law, Anne Harris, Freda Lightner, and Barbara Hartless and her husband, Ernie; a number of nieces and nephews; and Anderson Daniel and his wife, Christina, whom he loved as his children.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church by Pastor Elizabeth VonTrapp Walker.
