Fred Delano Thacker

October 10, 1935 - December 16, 2023

Fred Delano Thacker, 88, husband of Betty Ruth (Fitzgerald) Thacker, of Old White Hill Road in Stuarts Draft, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law surrounded by his family.
     Mr. Thacker was born on October 10, 1935 in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, a son of the late Floyd Otmer Thacker, Sr. and Sadie (Gilbert) Thacker.
     Fred was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Staunton and was retired from Crompton-Shenandoah, where he was employed as a supervisor in retail. Fred loved the Lord, he loved his family dearly, he had a love for music since the age of 8 years old and enjoyed hunting.
     In addition to his parents, Mr. Thacker was preceded in death by two brothers, Ishmael T. Thacker and Floyd Otmer Thacker, Jr.; and two sisters, Marie (Thacker) Rankin and Arlene (Thacker) Massie Worth.
     Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-seven years is a daughter, Sherry (Thacker) Campbell and her husband Doug; a son, Rocky Lane Thacker and his wife Tammy (Miller) Thacker (deceased) all of Stuarts Draft; five grandchildren, Travis Layne Campbell and wife Chrissy, Cassie (Campbell) Henry and husband Zach, Jami Price Gamble and husband Ace, Brooke (Thacker) Chavalas and husband Michael and Abbey (Thacker) Brown and husband D.J.; eight great grandchildren, Layne Douglas Campbell, Reagan Marie Campbell, Ivy Ruth Campbell, Nate Evan Henry, Audrey Jane Henry, Nora Madeline Henry, Alaina Grace Gamble and Jocie Annabelle Gamble; and a number of nieces and nephews.
     The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, 105 Garland Drive in Staunton and other times at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Doug Campbell, 21 Killdeer Lane in Stuarts Draft.
     A Celebration of life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor Randy Spencer and Pastor Bobby Campbell.
     Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
     Active pallbearers will be Rick Ellinger, Rick Moneymaker, Curtis VanFossen Bryan Plemmons, Danny Groah, Bobby Sims, Alan Umbarger, and Tony Groah.
     Honorary pallbearers will be extended family and friends attending the service.

     Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
