Frances Louise Matheny
Frances Louise Hoy Fox Matheny, age 91, wife of Richard (Tuffy) Matheny, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November, 15th, 2023. She was the daughter of Otho T. and Ruth Sampson Hoy, and was born in McGaheysville, Virginia on February 25th, 1932. In her girlhood years, she was both a Girl Scout and a Girl Scout Mariner. She was a 1949 graduate of Waynesboro High School, and attended Wayne Hills Baptist Church for many years. During her time there, she taught both Sunday School and the Sunbeams youth group with her good friend, Charlotte Patterson. In her younger years, she worked for a time at Roses Department Store, Berol Pen and General Electric.
“Mom” had a great passion for family genealogical research, and was both an accomplished cook and seamstress. She counted as the most wonderful time in her and Tuffy’s life, her time with the Circle Eight Square-Dancing group with cherished friends “Cowboy” and Liz Showers, and greatly enjoyed her fellowship with all the members of that group. Camping with good friends was a great enjoyment for her.
She was married first to Homer L. Fox and had two sons, Michael L. (Connie) and Donald L. (Judy) Fox. Her second marriage to Richard Lee “Tuffy” Matheny was blessed with a third son, Patrick Lee Matheny (Denise). Her eight grandchildren are Stacey Seibert (Paul), Susan Doyle (Ben), Cody Matheny, plus J.R, Laura Fox Wheeler (Rob), Tommy Fox, Tyler Fox (Brittany), and Elliott (Mireille) Fox. Additionally, she is survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Winston, Bobby and Tommy Hoy.
