Forrest M. Sheffer

February 5, 1936 - May 23, 2024

STAUNTON – Forrest Minor Sheffer, Jr., 88, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (May 23, 2024), at home with his family and special pets by his side.

Forrest was born in Staunton on February 5, 1936, a son of Forrest Minor, Sr. and Mary Edna (Diehl) Sheffer. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated from Augusta Military Academy. On August 10, 1956 he married the former Nancy Lee Sutton. Forrest was a Class-A building contractor and built many houses and sunrooms across the region. 

He loved the outdoors, especially gardening, fishing and hunting. “Pappoo” was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days with his great neighbors Johnny and Linda Lane, and Larry and Suzy Wills, and friend Ron Brown.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Debbie Cline; and two sisters, Charlotte Reid and Shelby Jean Coffey. Surviving are a daughter, Lorie Sheffer; a brother, Larry Sheffer and his wife Donna; two grandchildren, Derek and Melissa Cline; a sister-in-law, Lois Shifflet and husband John; numerous nieces and nephews including special nephew Chris Sheffer; his puppy “Ella Mae,” special cat “Sweetie Pie” and numerous other fur babies.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30 in Augusta Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Henry Elsea.
