Evelyn "Carol" (Blevins) Blackwell
Evelyn “Carol” (Blevins) Blackwell, 74, of Staunton, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024 at her residence.
Mrs. Blackwell was born on July 24, 1946 in Smyth County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Fred and Nellie Blevins.
Evelyn worked in housekeeping for the Virginia Department of Transportation and was retired as a certified nursing assistant from Western State Hospital. Carol had a fondness for all animals, especially her cat Tigger that she loved so much. She spent a lot of time with her grand-dogs and kitties and spoiled them all. She loved tending to her plants and exercising her green thumb. She laughed hard and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her three children were her world and she loved them all more than anything. Carol’s life was spent working hard to take care of her family. To her, family was everything. She was a giver by nature and the only form of payment for her was love in return. A true angel at heart.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her significant other, Robert Sweet; a sister, Peggy Atkins and her husband, Charles; a brother, Kenny Blevins; and her beloved cat “Tigger”.
Surviving are three children, Alton “Junior” and Teresa Blackwell, Whitney Ashley and Brooke Bailey, and David “Tony” and Beth Wolfe, Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Gillespie (Johnny), and Janie Catron; grandchildren, Cody Cubbage (Jennifer), Natalie Blackwell, A.J Jackson, and Lisa Wolfe; a special friend, Larry Foeresterling; numerous nieces and nephews; and grand-pets, “Louie”, “Minnie”, “Butterball”, and “Mika”.
The family would like to express their gratitude to special friends, Garrett Root and Nathan Martin, for all their help and concern to Evelyn.
A private entombment will be held in the Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Staunton- Augusta Regional SPCA (P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402) to help save the animals.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
