Elizabeth "Betty" Tarrant Wright
Elizabeth “Betty” Tarrant Wright, 76, of Verona, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 2, 2025.
Betty was the beloved wife of P.J. Wright, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to family, faith, and community.
Born to the late George E. Tarrant, Sr. and Lucile “Noble” Tarrant, Betty was also preceded in death by her brother, George E. Tarrant, Jr., and many cherished four-legged companions over the years. She had a heart big enough for everyone - people and pets alike.
Betty is survived by her husband P.J.; her son Paul Wright and wife Cathy of Richmond; daughter Nicole Jackson and husband Preston of Blacksburg; daughter Anita Smith and husband David of Crozet; her adored grandchildren Jessica, Curtis, Terry, Trivette, Benjamin, Ashton, Piper, Rafael, Marcus, Aiden and Wyndon; and her faithful dog Dixie, who rarely left her side.
A longtime member of Barren Ridge Church, Betty served faithfully as a Deacon and was a familiar and welcoming presence in the church kitchen. Whether she was organizing a potluck, preparing meals, or lending a hand at an event, Betty gave her time and energy generously, always without fanfare.
She lived life with purpose and joy. She loved to ski, knit gifts for those she loved, cook delicious meals that brought people together, and tend to her gardens and flowers with care. Her happiest moments were spent with her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy. Betty also cherished the many enduring friendships she built throughout her life.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, August 15, at 4:00 p.m. at Barren Ridge Church. All who knew and loved her are welcome. Following the memorial service, there will be a gathering with refreshments and a chance to share memories in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Samaritan’s Purse or God’s Pit Crew.
Arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton. Condolences may be shared online at www.coffmanfuneralhome.net.
Betty's kindness, steady presence, and deep love for her family and community will be missed more than words can express.
