Edwin Cassell Jennings

June 26, 1946 - June 26, 2024

Edwin Cassell Jennings, Jr. died on June 26, 2024. He was born in Christiansburg, VA. June 26, 1946 to Edwin Cassell Jennings and Clara Baker Jennings- who predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his sister Margaret Thompson.

Edwin is survived by his wife Harriet Holt Jennings; his son Steven Baker Jennings (Gail Clavet); daughter Claire Jennings Ramasamy (Ratha) and grandchildren: Holt, Kannan, Harriet Ramasamy and Henry Jennings. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Jennings (Linda); and his brother-in-law Derrill Thompson; sister-in-law Janet Holt, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed grew up in Arlington, VA., attended Wakefield High School, Ferrum College, and RPI/VCU. He was employed by Liphart Steel Co. of Richmond and Verona, VA. for 50 years. Over the years, Ed served on the board of Liphart Steel, The Richmond Engineers Club, The Virginia Association of General Contractors, Virginia-Carolina Structural Steel Fabricators, and was a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction.

Ed had a special ability to make people laugh and was especially good at it on the golf course and dance floor. His talent for talking like Donald Duck entertained children and earned him the nickname “Uncle Duck” by nieces and nephews.

Eddie found pleasure at his mountain home near Waynesboro, VA.- driving his tractor, skiing, gardening, tinkering, hunting, and shooting. He celebrated with extended family at his annual Christmas brunch or summer “Splash” at “the river”.
Eddie’s joy came from fishing, crabbing, or cruising the Chesapeake Bay aboard The Hogpenny or just hanging around White Stone with the grandkids- eating Eskimo pies.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care and excellent skills of the staff at Summit Square Memory Care in Waynesboro with grateful appreciation. And for the attentive watchful patience of Ed’s care providers Nita and Amber.

You may honor Ed’s memory with a contribution to the charity of your choice or: The Wilson Volunteer Fire Dept. 892 Mt. Torrey Rd., Lyndhurst, VA. 22952 or The White Stone Volunteer Fire Dept. 579 Chesapeake Dr., White Stone, VA. 22579.
