Edward "Smitty" Lee Smith

Edward Lee "Smitty" Smith Sr., 83, of Mount Solon, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at his home.

He was born on July 21, 1941 and was raised by sisters, Christine McCoy and Mae Dean, who preceded him in death.

He retired from Harrisonburg Hyundai with over 30 years of service. He served his country in the US Navy. Ed enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter, loved to eat and had an open door policy for all who came by (people or animal). But most of all he loved his family.

Edward was united in marriage on September 3, 1963 to Virginia Lee (Furr) Smith.

Smitty is survived by his children, Lisa Hensley & husband Kenneth, Edward "Red" Smith, Jr. & wife Jennifer and Darrel Furr & wife Kim; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son DeWayne Smith.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A service celebrating Edward's life will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Bridgewater with Pastor Darren Howdyshell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
