Earl Joe McCray
Earl Joe McCray, Sr., of Staunton, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. McCray was born in Fort Defiance, Virginia on March 14, 1943, a son of the late Floyd and Anna Mae (Stabus) McCray.
Earl was owner and operator of McCray’s Welding and Spindle’s Dynamics. Prior to being self-employed, he was employed by Smith’s Transfer as a diesel mechanic. He enjoyed going to antique car shows, hunting and spending time in his garden, growing all types of vegetables that he so generously shared with his friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCray was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerry, Bobby, Lacy and Larry McCray.
He is survived by two sons, Earl J. McCray, Jr and his wife Lisa of Craigsville, and Danny McCray of Orange Park, Florida; a granddaughter, Dana Shomo and her husband Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Ridge and Leddy Shomo; two brothers, Ray McCray of Waynesboro and Tracy McCray of Mt. Sidney; two sisters, Lula Shull of Bridgewater and Phyllis Gorsuch and husband Pete of Waynesboro; a special friend, Sherry Haley and her husband Eddie; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family of Mr. McCray, wishes to express a sincere “Thank You” to his Frontier Drive and Barterbrook Road neighbors, David Howdyshell, John Dillon and Dennis Rawley for their many years of friendship and kindness.
In keeping with Mr. McCray’s wishes, there will be no services.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
