Dorothy Camden
Dorothy Lucille (Crist) Camden, 89, of Staunton, Virginia, went to be with the Lord in her sleep on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living. She was born in Lexington, Virginia on November 1, 1934, a daughter of the late Arthur R. and Lula Virginia (Breedlove) Crist.
Dorothy was a supportive and loving mother. After her children had grown she pursued her education achieving her Master’s degree in Psychology and worked as a counselor. In her younger years, she enjoyed working in her flower beds, playing sports, going hiking, and lying in the sun. Dorothy was a very talented singer and guitar player and was even featured on the radio. She was an avid collector of angels and butterflies. Dorothy was devoted Christian and Prayer Warrior. She attended SherLynd Baptist Church and served in many leadership roles as a Bible Study Teacher and Lay minister. Dorothy will be remembered for her warm and friendly personality.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lloyd Camden; daughter, Pamela Sue Anderson; granddaughter, Alesha "Nikki" Chirron Anderson-Wilson; grandson, Michael Poell; siblings: William Preston ”Bobby” Crist, Arthur R. “Buddy” Crist, James “Jim” Crist; Catherine Crist Nelson, Helen Crist Dale, Isabelle Crist Swisher, and Margaret Crist.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Garn Anderson and wife, JoAnne, Allan Anderson and wife, Cheryl, and Cyndi Poell and husband, Michael; grandchildren: Steve Anderson and wife, Shaina, Samantha Gredig and husband, Rusty; Ashley Kantsos, Jordan Anderson and wife, Kasandra DeGray, Faith Anderson and husband, Andrew Cuthbertson; Garrett Poell, Adam Poell, Hayden Poell, Carson Poell, Brody Poell, Carly Ann Poell, and Krista Ray Poell; great-grandchildren: Stormy M. Stevens and husband, Lucas, Elizabeth Jane Kantsos, Farrell Benson Kantsos III, Anders Jordans'son, Tristan Nathaniel Taillon, Jaxson R. Custbertson, Sebastian Monty Custbertson, Paloma Anderson, Destiny Sweeny and husband, Jacob, and one soon to be born; great great-grandchildren: Serenity Marshall, Kyler Marshall, Brayden Ryan, Aiyana MaGruder, Madison Sweeney, Lainey Sweeney, Colter Sweeney, Emmet Stevens, and Hazel Gray Stevens; sisters: Betty Ann Crist Akers and husband, Roy, Lula Crist Deardorff, and Louise Crist Baber; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at SherLynd Baptist Church, 20 Winterview Ln, Lyndhurst, Virginia with Pastor Allen George officiating. Burial will follow at White Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
The viewing and receive of friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living, especially: Sue Campbell, Carrie Wood, Randal Johnson, Christine Almardoe, Whittney, Malika, Jennifer “Brighteyes”, Michelle Driver, and April Sprouse for their loving care of Dorothy during her time there. Also, a special thank you to the nurses with Legacy Hospice, Ruthie and Jennifer, for making Dorothy comfortable in her final days.
