Doris Wheelbarger Bowman
Doris Wheelbarger Bowman of Dayton passed away on April 29, 2025 at the age of 95. She was a devoted wife and a beloved mother, grandmother, and "Maw Maw".
Doris was born on October 6, 1929 to the late Claude Emory Wheelbarger, Sr. and Ethel Virginia (Simmers) Wheelbarger. She was a graduate of Dayton High School and Madison College. On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Donald Victor Bowman, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 5, 2011. They were active members of Dayton United Methodist Church, serving in a variety of roles. After raising their children, Doris was a loyal employee of Truck Enterprises for many years.
Her personal interests included gardening, cooking and sewing, She was happiest serving others and caring for her family. She lived her life with humility and kindness.
Doris is survived by three children: Sandra (Steven) Shanaberger, Donald (Jo Ellen) Bowman, Susan (Richard) Ingram. Her grandchildren include Derek Shanaberger, Kara (Dustin) Stultz, Daniel (Libby) Bowman, Kyle (Erin) Shanaberger, Emily (Tim) Harper-Shifflett, and Caleb (Katie) Shanaberger. Great-grandchildren include Evan Stultz, Jonah Stultz, Brynn Shanaberger, Grant Stultz, Gabriel Shifflett, Garrett Shanaberger, Brinkley Bowman, and Madelyn Shifflett. Surviving siblings include Carole Weaver, Norma (Jim) Snyder, Wanda (Gene) Wampler, and Samuel (Margaret Ann) Wheelbarger. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Claude Wheelbarger and her sister, Audrey Barnhart.
