Donna Lee (Messinger) Godfrey

November 7, 1948 - December 16, 2025

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Donna Lee (Messinger) Godfrey, 77, of Waynesboro, joined her Lord in heaven. 
     Donna was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on November 7, 1948, a daughter of the late Donald H. and Lillian F. (Smith) Messinger. 
     Donna was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, PA.  Before earning an Associates of Science from Penn State University and working for Penn State York Campus as a tutor coordinator, she worked in the family business, Three Sons Meat Market tending the retail stand at New Eastern Market. Donna was a member of Codorus Church of the Brethren where she actively participated in the Friendship Circle Sunday School class and was a long-time member of the Bells of the Valley handbell choir.  Given her passion for children, she volunteered with Brethren Disaster Relief and the Children’s Aid Society as a childcare worker, and she was involved in Codorus’s youth ministry preparing monthly soup and salad meals with her husband, Dean, following the morning church service.  After moving to Virginia in 2014, she attended Farmville United Methodist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for young couples and young families, volunteered in the church office, and was involved with United Methodist Women.  Her hobbies included reading, quilting, gardening, and baking cookies to share with family and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dean Lynn Godfrey.
     She is survived by a daughter, Melissa A. Godfrey of Charlotte, NC; a son, Cale L. Godfrey of Stuarts Draft, VA; four grandchildren, Isaiah Godfrey of Keysville, VA, Samuel Godfrey of Winston-Salem, NC, Rebekah Godfrey of Richmond, VA, and Andrew Godfrey of Harrisonburg, VA; five siblings, David Messinger of Littlestown, PA, Daniel Messinger of Hanover, PA, Denise Messinger of Ardentsville, PA, Joe Messinger of East Berlin, PA, and Debra Stover of Carlise, PA.  
     Services will be private.

     Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
