Donald Wilson McDonaldson
Donald Wilson McDonaldson, 81, husband of Stella Elizabeth (Sherwood) McDonaldson, of Swoope, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. McDonaldson was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on July 27, 1942, a son of the late “Jerney” Wilson McDonaldson and Virginia Volene (Rodeffer) McDonaldson.
Donald retired from the State of Virginia in the Department of Corrections after serving over for 22 years. He “loved his Lord” and was a former member of the Churchville Lions Club and the Craigsville Planning Board. Mr. McDonaldson assisted in collecting food for the Craigsville Area Food Pantry. He loved cooking and was known as “Roll Man” by those lucky enough to eat his homemade rolls. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed traveling and riding through the mountains.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McDonaldson was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice (Nessar) McDonaldson; and a brother, Danny McDonaldson.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 16 years, is a daughter, Sherry Carpenter and her husband, Chris of Swoope; a son, David McDonaldson and his wife, Olympia of Fishersville; four grandchildren, Drayton Tyler Tuttle and his wife, Christina LeAn, Bridgett McDonaldson, Brittany McDonaldson, and Jakob Coffey; two step-daughters, Angela “Anny” Paiva and her husband, Joseph “Joesy” of Craigsville, and Lucille Cambra and her husband, Gerald of Florida; two step-sons, Harold Westgate and his fiancé, Cathy and Elvis Sherwood and his wife, Nancy all of Taunton, Massachusetts; four step-grandchildren, Allan Paiva, Evonne Paiva and her partner, Jeff, Katie Paiva and her fiancée, Chuck, and Sierra (Carpenter) Hicks and her husband, Logan; five step-great-grandchildren, Jaiden Hostetter, Olivia Long, Lucas Long, Raylan Long, and Davina Long; numerous nieces and nephews; and special dogs, “Buddy”, “G.G.”, “Oxy”, and “Sassy”.
Per Mr. McDonaldson’s request, there will be no formal public services. A private celebration of life will be held for his family and close friends.
