Denny Brooks

April 11, 1951 - March 31, 2026

Denny Lee Brooks, 74, of Waynesboro, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. He was the youngest child born to the late Russell Lee Brooks and the late Catherine Landes Brooks on April 11, 1951 in Waynesboro.

Denny attended Waynesboro Public Schools and Wilson Memorial High School. His faith in Jesus Christ was very important to him and over the years he was affiliated with several local churches most recently Gospel Light Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon until his illness.

In his working career, he dedicated over 50 years to the automotive industries as a mechanic and founder of Brooks’ Auto and Truck Repair Center until his retirement. Other interests included spending time with family, classic muscle cars, drag racing, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and riding side by side on the mountain trails.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and eight sisters.

He is survived by his wife and partner of nearly 46 years, Deborah O. Brooks; son, Destry Lee Brooks (Bethany); three daughters: Dana Brooks, Erika Smith (Bryan), and Erin Wakefield (Jake); mother-in-law, Frances Elaine Willis; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; one step-granddaughter; one great grandson; one grandson who he had a special bond with, Jacob Lee Wakefield; one granddaughter who he adored, Airelle Bartlett; special friends, Gene Abshire and Jake Wakefield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Denny wishes to thank his beloved daughter, Erin Wakefield for standing by him every step of his battle with the big “C”.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gabriel Smith, Levi Smith, Gene Abshire, Jacob Wakefield, Jacob Wakefield, and Bryan Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 5pm until 8pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.
