Danny L. Wilson

STAUNTON – Danny Lee Wilson, 77, husband of June Shifflett Wilson, passed away Friday (August 16, 2024) in Augusta Health.

Danny was born March 4, 1947 in Augusta County, and was a son of the late Homer Burton and Ruby Florence (Sellers) Wilson.

Danny served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and a member of Staunton VFW Post 2216. He was a self-employed painting contractor for many years. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, NASCAR, bluegrass music, football and wine-making. He was affiliated with Christ United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by three siblings, Eddie Wilson, Peggy Dudley and Jack Wilson. Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years are a number of nieces and nephews, including Jeffrey W. Wilson who was like a son to Danny; sisters-in-law Pauline Knott and husband Vance, Patti Bodkin and husband John, and Jayne Shiflett; as well as many nieces and nephews on June’s side of the family.

Per Danny’s request, his service will be held at the graveside. It will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20 in West Augusta Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Madison Ailinger and Pastor Darren Howdyshell, nephew. Active pallbearers will be Jesse Kester, Neil Kester, David Acord, Lance Armstrong, Edward “Buster” Lovegrove and Chris Tuttle. Attendees are welcome to bring their lawn chairs to the service.

Friends and family are invited to pay respects during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, August 19 at Bear Funeral Home.
