Craig Merrill Peterson, 78, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.He was born on July 13, 1946, in Paterson, New Jersey, to the late William Jerome and Ruth Bailey Henderson Peterson.Craig had a fulfilling career working for Smith’s Transfer and Wilson Trucking. In his leisure time, Craig’s passion for art was notable. His artistic spirit was matched by his enthusiasm for collecting civil war antiques and stamps, reflecting his deep appreciation for history.He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann Hanger Peterson; his sons, Matthew Lewis Peterson and Allen Michael Peterson; his brother-in-law, Ray Meek; his nephew, Dr. Gregory Meek; a “special sister”, Sharon Driscoll, and his beloved furry companion, Lacy.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Judy Dell Meek and his nephew, Jeffery Dale Meek.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Thornrose Cemetery with Reverend Elizabeth “Tizzy” von Trapp Walker officiating.
