Clay Edward Hewitt

August 29, 1931 - March 19, 2024

Clay Edward Hewitt, 92, widower of Nancy Mildred (Hulvey) Hewitt, of 725 Hewitt Road, Swoope, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his residence. 
Mr. Hewitt was born in Augusta County, Virginia on August 29, 1931, son of the late Elton Massie Hewitt, Sr. and Ruby Ethel (Harris) Hewitt. 
Clay was a 1949 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and was a lifetime member of Hebron Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and as a Youth Group Advisor with his wife, Nancy, for many years. Mr. Hewitt was the co-owner of Staunton Union Stock Yards, which his family operated for over 75 years, and was a self-employed farmer at Riverside Stock Farm, his family farm for 80 years. 
In addition to his parents and wife of sixty-seven years, Mr. Hewitt was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Wise and Eloise Moore.
Surviving, are three sons, Neal Hewitt and his wife, Ann, Dennis Hewitt and his wife, Donna, and Jerry Hewitt and his wife, Kim all of Swoope; a daughter, Kathy Bush and her husband, Joe of Swoope; a brother, E.M. Hewitt, Jr. of Swoope; a sister, Evie Kay Pyne of Staunton; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. 
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2024 in Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Pastor Linwood Wilkes.
Active pallbearers will be his sons Neal, Dennis, and Jerry Hewitt, David Hewitt, Joe Bush, Clint Hewitt, Ryan Hewitt and Joel Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Shiflet, Reid Shiflet, Chad Lambert, Joyce Herndon, Shirley Fauber, Jeff Showalter, William Revercomb, Joe Williams, Willard Campbell, Todd Weikert, Keyser Kirtley, and Michael Godfrey. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Virginia FFA Foundation, c/o Jennifer Armstrong, P.O. Box 40, Weyers Cave, VA 24486.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank You” to the staff at Home Instead and Hospice of the Shenandoah for the care shown to Mr. Hewitt. 
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
