Charles William Miller

July 10, 1932 - March 8, 2024

Charles William Miller, 91, of Bridgewater passed away on March 8, 2024 at Brunk House, Virginia Mennonite Home following a brief illness.

He was born July 10, 1932 near Bridgewater and was the son of Roy Forest and Hallie (Wine) Miller. He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from VPI. He served in the United States Air Force as a Weather Observer stationed at Bolling Air Force Base in Maryland. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Rockingham County to teach first at Elkton High School before teaching at Turner Ashby High School. However, he soon realized that working two full time jobs, teaching, and farming were not compatible, so he became a full time farmer raising turkeys and beef cattle.

Charles was active in the Virginia Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors for a number of years. He was also a long-time member of the Bridgewater Ruritan Club, participating in many projects.

He made a profession of faith in Christ and joined the Bridgewater Baptist Church at age fourteen and has remained an active member for seventy seven years. During those years, he has held many positions including church moderator, deacon, Sunday School teacher, and serving on numerous committees. In addition, he has served as moderator of the Augusta Baptist Association.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Hall) Miller, his two sons, Forrest Miller and wife Marlene Cline Miller, and Fred Miller; granddaughter Antonia Rose Miller and grandson Colton Dane Miller; three step-sons, Lucien Hall, Addison Hall, and Rhodes Hall; two step-granddaughters, one step-grandson; and six step-great-grandchildren. He was proud of and loved them all.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Moffet Miller; his grandson, Bryce William Miller; and brother Willard Edward Miller.

Charles was known by many to be a kind and gentle man, truthful and honest, who loved all of his family and, above all, loved his God.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, March 11, 2024 at Bridgewater Baptist Church. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
