Charles Spears

On Monday, November 17, 2025 Charles Edward Spears, passed on to Glory surrounded by his
wife, children, and grandchildren. A son of the late Clayborne and Christine (Washington) Spears,
Charles was born March 28, 1939 in Waynesboro, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosa Spears and a great-grandson,
Christopher Spears.
Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth (Rose) Spears; his
beloved daughters, Cheryl Christine Washington, Mary Lou McCarthy, Judy Elaine (Cephus) Bonds,
Jessica Dale (Rodney)Washington, and Dr. Charlene Elizabeth Spears; thirteen grandchildren, Devonna
Porter, Chad, Andre Jr., and Jordan Hill; Jeremy, Harry Jr., Corey, and Lane Brown; Jacinda Chambers
and Judya Bonds; Brock Winfrey, Jr.; Chanise Washington and Taylor (Quennel) Burton; a host of great
grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Coles; brother, Rudolph Donald “Doo”
Spears; a special and devoted niece, Pam (William) Woods and many other close family and friends.
Charles attended Augusta County Training School and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist
Restoration Ministries. Charles was last employed and retired from Dupont after 28 years and he also
spoke fondly of his years working as an orderly at the original Waynesboro Community Hospital. Charles
enjoyed watching the Washington Commanders, the Golden State Warriors (especially Steph), looking at
new cars (especially Cadillacs), eating chocolate candy, and ice cream bars. Charles loved being outside
visiting with family and friends, laughing and talking about the good old days. He enjoyed his Earthly
life, but in the end, he was ready to go to his eternal home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Oak Grove Baptist Restoration Ministries, 223 Oak Grove Church Rd, Waynesboro.
