Charles Ray Obaugh, Jr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at his residence in Staunton.He was born on April 20, 1940, in Staunton to the late Charles Ray, Sr. and Virginia Kerlyn Baber Obaugh. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Nelson Obaugh.Charlie was a proud member of the Wilson Memorial High School Class of 1957 in Fishersville. He went on to attend The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg before serving his country honorably in the United States Air Force.Following his service, Charlie began a career in the automotive industry, first working at Hays Chevrolet in Staunton and later with his “Uncle Paul” for ten years at Obaugh Ford. In 1975, he took a leap of faith and incorporated as Charlie Obaugh Pontiac Buick GMC in Staunton, steadily growing his business over the years with his son, Eric, to include dealerships in Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, and Lynchburg. Known for his leadership and dedication, he was proud to be named Virginia’s Time Dealer of the Year in 2008.Charlie was also deeply committed to his faith and attended Christ United Methodist Church. He lived a life filled with adventure and curiosity, traveling the world. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1957.Beyond his business accomplishments, Charlie held a deep love for his family farm and its cattle. He had a generous spirit and supported many local charities, including the SPCA, Boys and Girls Club, and his first love, the 4H Animal Market Show.He was especially proud of his role as a General Motors dealer and had an unwavering appreciation for the dedication of his employees, whom he valued greatly.At home, Charlie found joy in the companionship of his beloved cats and dogs, including his crotchety cat, Baxter. He was also an avid supporter of University of Virginia athletics, cheering passionately for his Cavaliers. Charlie had a passion for golf with his family and friends, both past and present.He is survived by his wife, Valerie Jean Henley Obaugh; his son, Eric Wesley Obaugh and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Dylan and Colten; his stepdaughter, Laura Ballengee and her husband, T.E., and their children Savannah and Lillian; his stepson, Matthew Burnette and his wife, Amanda and their children, Julie Anna and Jackson.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton.The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Bobby Brown and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their love and care of Charlie.Memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Regional SPCA (P.O.
