Charles "Charlie" Edward Johnson

August 24, 1950 - September 12, 2023

Charles Edward “Charlie” Johnson, 73, husband of Laura Stover Johnson, of Verona, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2023.
Charlie was an active member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteered and helped with many other groups in the church. Charlie also attended Middle River Community Fellowship. In addition to being an active Christian, Charlie was passionate about everything outdoors, mentoring young adults, and lending a helping hand to anyone. If there was a new piece of land to hunt or a river newly stocked, he was a happy man and ready to explore. For many years he coached youth softball and baseball. Sharing his love for sports and the outdoors with his children and those around him, he inspired many to have the same passions in life. He left us far too soon, but in his time here left an impact on every person he ever met and will not be forgotten.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Johnson, Jr.; mother, Loma Ann (Jarvis); and a sister, Hazel Lee (Johnson) Sensabaugh.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Charlie is survived by his two children, Amy Johnson Stewart and her husband, Wade, and Adam Johnson and his fiancé, Jaimie; and two grandchildren, Connor and Sophia Stewart. In addition, he leaves behind two brothers, Marvin Thomas Johnson and James ‘Bobby’ Robert Johnson and his wife, Anita; a sister, Mary Ann (Johnson) Zwart; and a brother-in-law, Charles Sensabaugh.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church by Pastor Elizabeth “Tizzy” von Trapp Walker.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is handling his arrangements.
