Charles A. Quick

November 19, 1933 - March 8, 2026

Charles A. Quick, 92, of Harriston, VA, went peacefully and joyfully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Regency of Augusta in Fishersville.

He was born in Barren Ridge, Virginia, to the late Henry and Fannie Quick.

After graduating from Wilson Memorial High School in 1951, Charles worked for the State Department of Highways, A&P, and DuPont in Waynesboro. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 where he spent two years studying microwave radio theory which he said changed the whole course of his professional career. When he left the Army, he married the love of his life, Elaine. They lived in Waynesboro and began a family while he worked for General Electric to support them. When the fifth and last child arrived, they moved to a roomier place near Grottoes.

After the move, Charles took the family to a closer church, Mount Horeb Presbyterian, where he lived his faith by serving in leadership and teaching Sunday School. He retired in 1989 as Manager of Purchasing of Genicom – the company that had bought out the printer manufacturing plant from GE. In his retirement, he enjoyed becoming computer literate, and he used his self-taught skills to build the church’s website. His other retirement hobbies included flower gardening and woodworking, and he enjoyed watching Purple Martins migrate each Spring.

Charles and Elaine recently enjoyed a great day of celebration for their 70th anniversary this past September with many of their family and friends.

In addition to his wife Elaine Quick, he is survived by his children: Stanley Quick (Leslie), Alan Quick (Linda), Diane Short (Gary), Beverly Schuping (Craig), and Tim Quick (Flo), eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, his siblings Vivian Losh and Douglas Quick (Jill), and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Stoney Quick.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Grottoes. Interment will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Edgewood Cemetery, prior to a service of Witness to the Resurrection at 2:00 pm at Mount Horeb Presbyterian Church, 4517 Rockfish Rd, Grottoes, VA, with the Rev. Dr. John McDonald presiding. There will be a reception following the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to offer gratitude to the staffs of Regency of Augusta and Gentiva Hospice who provided such great care and attention to Charles in his final two months.
