Carolyn Sue (Gosney) Yates
Carolyn Sue (Gosney) Yates, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Carolyn's legacy will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Her deep love for family, her strong faith, and the meaningful traditions she created will live on through future generations.
An exceptionally talented seamstress and crafter, Carolyn used her skills to create a warm and beautiful home. She found joy in sharing her creativity with her loved ones, making every holiday and family gathering memorable. She was also a devoted member of Moscow Covenant Brethren Church.
Born in Danville, VA, on January 13, 1950, to Robert "Bob" and Elizabeth Gosney, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents. After graduating from George Washington High School, she pursued her education at James Madison University, where she met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Yates. The couple married on August 30, 1969, beginning a beautiful journey of 55 years together.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dick, and their four children: Rick Yates and his wife Teresa of Bridgewater; Elizabeth Moseley and her husband Mark of Dayton; Melissa May and her husband Mike of Dayton; and Wyatt Yates and his wife Jenny of Rockingham. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Kyle Spoor and his wife Sarah, Ronnie Mongold, Phillip Yates, Samantha Yates, Brad Moseley, Kaitlyn Moseley, Caleb May, Maddie May, Emma Yates, and Ava Yates. Carolyn leaves behind five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished.
Her warmth, creativity, and dedication to her family will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A service to celebrate Carolyn's life will be held at Moscow Covenant Brethren Church at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024, with Pastor Darren Howdyshell officiating. Burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association at 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
