Carolyn "Alderson" Sue Mechalske

Carolyn Sue Mechalske, 75, of Kinston, NC, formerly of Locust Grove, VA passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Sue was born in Charleston, WV, daughter of E.H. (Herald) and Pauline Alderson, and grew up in Nitro, WV. Soon after graduating from Nitro High School, she relocated to Northern Virginia to pursue a career in journalism, and her true passion which was art.

On December 22, 1967 she married Millard John Mechalske Jr in Falls Church, VA. Together they celebrated over 55 years of marriage.

Sue is survived by her husband John, her two sons John David (Christi) Mechalske of Grimesland, NC and Clifford (Tonya) Mechalske of Hollidaysburg, PA, her sister Barbara Alderson Stull of Montross, VA, her former daughter-in-law Allison King of Mims, FL, her granddaughter Cassidy (Jacob) Angelo of Harrisonburg, VA, her step-grandaughter Stephani (Salar) Houshvand and her step- great granddaughters Hadleigh Endicott and Arya Endicott of Greenville, NC, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives she touched in so many positive ways.

Art was Sue's passion and she relished her role as a graphic designer. She created multiple logos for DC area businesses. She always encouraged her family to "think like a creative person". We will miss her warm and quirky personality and her great hugs. To know Sue was to love her.
