Carol Yvonne Butler

August 30, 1941 - March 30, 2024

Carol Yvonne Burleson Butler passed away on March 30, 2024 surrounded by family. Born August 30, 1941 to John Hassel Burleson and Ruth M. Burleson in Red Jacket, West Virginia, Carol graduated from Northampton High School in Eastville, VA in 1959, Radford College in 1963, and later obtained a Master's Degree from George Mason University.

Carol is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Thomas F. Butler, Jr., who she married on June 20, 1964, her two children Thomas F. Butler III (Laura), Xan Butler Stevens (Shane), her five grandchildren Brittney Hopkinson (Nichole), Hayley Brown (Tucker), Tara Butler, Leland Stevens, Carson Stevens, sister Linda Igou (Ron), brothers John Burleson and Michael Burleson (Jocelyn), and many dear friends that she considered her "quilting family."

She was a loving, natural nurturer and caretaker who embodied kindness, compassion, and faith. She selflessly dedicated her time to helping others and was loved by all.

For many years, Carol was a public school teacher, administrator for a retirement community, and a volunteer coordinator for hospice and Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Northern Virginia. She was an active Relay for Life advocate and Judge for the Rockingham County Fair.

Carol was an avid quilter, embroiderer, sewer, crafter, and homemaker. She immensely enjoyed her relationship with her grandchildren and her "life on the farm" with her cows and bees and growing lavender and grapes. She had recently rediscovered her love for piano and played daily.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery in Bridgewater with Pastor Steve Spire officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Carol's memory to Hospice of the Shenandoah Camp Dragonfly at www.augustahealth.com/foundation/give/ or 78 Medical Center Circle, Fishersville, VA 22939.
