Carol Jane Suter Michael, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on April 30th, 2024 in Harrisonburg, VA surrounded by her family.
Born on December 16, 1949, in Bridgewater, Virginia, Carol was the daughter of William Carrol Suter and Willie Kathleen Humbert. Carol is survived by her husband Erwin Michael; daughter, Nicole Ann Fagerli and husband Dr. Julian Fagerli; stepdaughter, Alexandria Michael Chaney and husband Marshall Chaney; siblings Kathleen Suter Metcalfe, Dr. William Carrol Suter Jr., and JoEllen Suter-Burford; grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Fagerli and Caroline Grace Fagerli; and Georgia Chaney.
Carol’s life was powered by vibrant creativity, a profound devotion to family and friends, and her enduring Christian faith.After graduating from Madison College with a BA. She pursued a career as a buyer at La Vouge in Williamsburg, Virginia.Her passion for textiles and fibers was evident in her work and hobbies, as she excelled as a buyer in Williamsburg before transferring to Richmond. Carol's journey led her to become a dedicated member of her family's business, Suters, which spanned six generations and stood as the oldest furniture company in Virginia. She embraced the opportunity to run the family business in Harrisonburg, embodying the values of hard work and commitment instilled by her parents.
Later in life, Carol found solace and community in her church family, immersing herself in the teachings of her faith and finding peace in her spiritual journey. She cherished the simple joys of life, from caring for her beloved peacocks to going out to nightly dinners with her husband. She also found happiness in creating memories with her family, whether it was trips to the beach, Sunday night dinners or visiting her granddaughters in Raleigh and New York City. Carol always made an effort to be with family.
Her passion for life, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her faith will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bridgewater or Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 11:00 AM on May 4th, 2024 at Saint Michael's United Church with Rev. Hollis Dodge and Rev. Bill Leach officiating, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
Carol Jane Suter Michael will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared with all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
