Brenda C. Rector

SWOOPE – Brenda Cheryl Rector, 74, passed away February 15, 2025.

She was born in Staunton on January 12, 1951, a daughter of the late John Frank and Lucille Virginia (Rawley) Rector. Brenda graduated magna cum laude from Mary Baldwin College with a Master’s degree in criminal psychology. She was employed as a geriatric psychologist by the Virginia Department of Corrections, retiring from the Staunton Correctional Center when the facility closed. After retirement, she focused on developing her other interests: she was a talented artist, painting many still-life and landscape pieces; and was also an accomplished author of poetry and children’s books. She was a very devoted Christian and loved the Lord. She was dedicated to sharing His Word to help and encourage others.

Surviving are her son, John Martin Moskowitz; a sister, Terry Pack; grandchildren John Davis Moskowitz and Allie Moskowitz; nieces Rachel Miller and Sydney Pack; special friend Jean Lance; and her dear parakeet, “Primm Shisha.”

A private burial service was held in Green Hill Cemetery, Churchville.
