Bobby Boone Whitson
Bobby Boone Whitson, 83, husband of Loretta Gaye (Hanson) Whitson, of Churchville Avenue, Staunton, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in the comfort of his residence and family.
Mr. Whitson, a steadfast figure in the heart of Churchville, Virginia, leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering dedication. For nearly five decades, Bobby charted his own path in the business world, serving his community with integrity and passion. His expertise, cultivated over 20 years in Washington DC specializing in transmissions, was matched only by his boundless love for his family. Bobby's devotion to his loved ones knew no bounds; not a day passed without him expressing his love for them, reminding them of his affection and the enduring presence of Jesus in their lives. To many, Bobby was a beacon of peace, radiating love and acceptance to all who crossed his path. He found solace in his faith, finding comfort in the words of John 3:16, which encapsulated the essence of his belief and prepared him for his journey into eternity. Beyond his family circle, Bobby's love extended to his community, where his strong work ethic and compassionate spirit earned him admiration and respect from all who knew him. In his final weeks, Bobby's message of love echoed: "I love you, and Jesus loves you too." Bobby Whitson's life was a testament to the transformative power of love and faith, leaving an enduring mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Mr. Whitson was born in Deerfield, Virginia on October 3, 1940, a son of the late Zol Whitson and Flora (Boone) Street.
He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Whitson; three sisters, Nell Hicks, Evelyn Harrel, Betty Sheffield; and a brother, Lewis Whitson.
In addition to his wife of sixty-three years, he is survived by a sister, Juanita Fullerton; a daughter in law, Colleen Cooper; six grandchildren, Krista Prevette, Kellie Lowe and her husband Travis, Andrew, Matthew, Richard “R.J.” and Zachary Cooper; ten great-grandchildren, Michael and Nathaniel Prevette, Levi Lowe, Tori Iqbal and her husband Harris, Makayla Dodson and her husband Devon, Rymer Cooper, Dorothy Cooper, Richie Cooper, Hazel Cooper, and Sebastian Cooper; and one great-great granddaughter, Safiyah Iqbal. Bobby Whitson is also survived by three cherished children, Sawyer, Deacon, and Walker Whitson, who were cousins and frequent visitors, sharing in cherished moments and memories.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the End of the Trail Cemetery in Greenbrier County, West Virginia.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Prevette, Ken, David and Daniel Whitson, Craig Hicks, Darrel Persinger, Zack Fullerton, Michael Sheffield, and Dale Burns.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nathaniel Prevette and Sean Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to UVA Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 37963, Boone, Iowa 50037.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
