Betty F. Eckard
Betty F. Eckard, 86, a loving and compassionate individual who dedicated her life to caring for others, peacefully passed away on July 21, 2023, in Fishersville. She was born on January 19, 1937, in Augusta County to her parents, William Homer Fitzgerald and Ruby Lee Vance Fitzgerald.
Betty's nurturing spirit led her to pursue a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), where she worked at District Home and Kings Daughters Hospital. Her commitment to providing comfort and support to patients in their times of need earned her the respect and gratitude of both colleagues and patients alike.
In her personal life, Betty found joy and fulfillment alongside her beloved husband, Ernest "Richard" Eckard Jr., whom she shared a lifetime of precious memories with.
Betty's caring nature extended beyond her professional duties and family life; she always made time for her cherished children. She is survived by her son William Richard Eckard and his wife Frostie, as well as her daughter Melissa Ann Carter.
Additionally, Betty leaves behind siblings who were dear to her heart:, Henry Freed Fitzgerald and Patsy Ann Fitzgerald Lunsford.
In the circle of Betty's life were also cherished grandchildren: Kristi Eckard, MacKenzie Carter, and Colby Dylan Snyder. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of each grandchild whom she adored and delighted in.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, John Marion Fitzgerald, Judith Mae Fitzgerald Quick and Mary Sue Fitzgerald Coffey.
A graveside service will be held to honor the memory of Betty F. Eckard on July 26, 2023, at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro with Pastor Luke Smith officiating. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, with friends and family gathering to pay their final respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Betty's honor to Intrepid USA Hospice (427 Lee Jackson Hwy, Ste A3, Staunton, VA 24401).
