Benjamin Harrop

SWOOPE – Benjamin Richard Harrop, infant son of Keith Nathanael and Rachel (Harper) Harrop, passed away on October 31, 2024.

Benjamin and his twin brother James were born three months early, on October 22, 2024, at the University of Virginia Hospital. In spite of multiple challenges, Ben strengthened on a hopeful trajectory for seven days; however, complications mounted that he was not able to sustain. On October 31, the skilled and compassionate staff of UVA NICU enabled Rachel to finally hold Ben in her arms for his remaining precious moments. He was 9 days old.

Benjamin is survived by his parents; four older siblings, Jessica Anne, Sophia Rose, Kallie Florence, and Keith Nathanael Harrop II; twin brother James Elwood Harrop; paternal grandparents William Scott and Susan Jane Harrop of Charlottesville; maternal grandfather Paul William Harper of Waynesboro; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Linda Bourne Harper; paternal great-grandfather Richard Hoffman; and maternal great-grandfather Richard Bourne, from whom he got his middle name.

A celebration of Benjamin’s life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on November 21 in Covenant Presbyterian Church in Staunton, officiated by Pastor John Peterson, Chaplain Brett Johnson, and Ben’s uncle, Pastor Jason Harrop.
