Barbara Jean (May) Carpenter
Barbara Jean (May) Carpenter, 82, widow of Berlie Thomas “Tommy” Carpenter, of Dry Branch Road, Churchville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at her residence.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Falling Springs, Virginia on October 27, 1942, a daughter of the late Jessie Lee May and Beulah Pearl (Andrews) May.
Barbara was a member of Jerusalem Chapel Church and retired from Augusta Health. She found joy in bird watching, playing bingo, and, in her younger years, enjoyed bowling. Additionally, Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the “Red Hatters”.
In addition to her parents and husband of 39 years, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph, Berlin, Basil, Freddie, Carlos, and Buddy May; two sisters, Ethel Ehlers and Christina Young; a special aunt, Lucy Carroll; and her furry friend, “Gizmo”.
Surviving, is a son, Jeffrey T. Carpenter and his fiancé, Tabby Simpson of Churchville; two daughters, Rhonda M. Hull of Churchville and Lorie L. Wolfe and her boyfriend, Rick Ham of Crimora; two grandchildren, Morgan Chapman and her husband Dustin, and Kelsey Wolfe: a great-grandson, Bowen; three sisters, Sue Terry and her husband, Brance, Betty Brown and her husband, Johnny, and Pat Shifflett; a number of nieces and nephews; and special neighbors and friends, Phillip and Barbara Dedrick and their sons, Dustin and Corbin.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Dennis Taylor.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Timmy Turner, Dustin Dedrick, Bub May, Corbin Dedrick, Michael Burns, Dustin Chapman, and Phillip Dedrick.
