Anna Strother
Anna Virginia (Hobson ) Strother, 85, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Augusta Health. She was born in Afton on May 13, 1940, a daughter of the late Booke T. and Janie Lee (Berry) Hobson.
Anna attended Pittsburg, PA, public schools and Rosenwald School upon returning to Waynesboro. She worked as a private housekeeper until her retirement. Anna attended Shiloh Baptist Church in her younger years. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid flower gardener that could make nearly anything grow.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Hobson, a special father figure, Douglass Crawford; aunts: Rachel Fitch and Louise Brooks; uncle, Fred Berry; a special aunt, Anna Mae Berry and a special cousin, Karen Green.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Strother; son, Shane Srother; daughter, Shea Strother; special daughter-in-law, Michelle Strother; grandchildren: Oren J. Strother (Tiffany), Shane Strother, Jr. and, Zane Strother; great grandchildren: Asher, Evan, and Brayleigh; siblings: Viola Hobson, Roger Henderson, Bobby Hobson, Ricky Hobson, Addie White (Joseph) and Randolph Henderson; aunt, Mary Lytle; additional family member: Dale Hobson (Lucinda), Evette Howard (Terry), Everette Hobson, and Ron Hobson; special friends: Olamae McCarthy, Linda McCarthy, and Freddie Gray; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home with Bishop Theodore E. Payne, Sr. officiating. Burials will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Howard, Dale Hobson, Mike Blair, Fred Berry, Michael Dillard, and Levi Brooks.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
