Karen Crawford Obituary
Karen Crawford, 67, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully in her home on October 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born on May 30, 1959, in Charlottesville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dicky, and her maternal grandparents, Mannis Lee Shifflett and Anna Dinah Shifflett, whom she credited with helping shape her into the person everyone loved and adored.
Inspired by the love and compassion they instilled in her, Karen developed a deep desire to help others. This led her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and co-found Above and Beyond Home Healthcare, where she provided loving care to those in need. Karen devoted herself to caring for individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth until her retirement following a breast cancer diagnosis.
Karen began her battle against cancer in 2018 with God in her heart and her family by her side. She never wanted anyone to be upset on her behalf, believing that through her faith in God and the love of her family and friends, she could face any struggle. She met her battle head-on, drawing courage, bravery and strength from her unwavering faith. Above all, Karen would want everyone to remember her for her love of God, family, and friends.
Karen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sam Crawford; her mother-in-law, Naomi; her four children and their significant others, Christie (Steven), T.J. (Sheila), Anthony (Crystal), and Randy (Jessica); and Andy Wilfong (Kirsten), whom Karen loved as a son. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
