William "Billy" P. Campbell

William Price “Billy” Campbell III, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 12, 2026, following an extended illness. Billy was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton and attended Ferrum College. He went on to dedicate his career to public safety, retiring from the Virginia Department of Corrections with thirty years of loyal service. Billy was a devoted father whose family was his greatest joy. Throughout his prolonged illness, his children showed him that same deep devotion, stepping in as his dedicated caregivers and ensuring he was filled with comfort, love, and support at home. Billy was known for his infectious laugh, his kind heart, and a rare ability to never take himself too seriously. He was a passionate college football enthusiast and a fiercely loyal fan of the University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers, never missing a televised game. A true lover of nature, Billy found immense peace outdoors. He was an avid swimmer, diver, and fisherman who cherished his time swimming with his children in Goshen and Marble Valley, as well as taking scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway. He held a deep appreciation for all animals and found great simple pleasure in feeding his birds every day. He was also blessed to have a very special friend, Hazel, whose visits with her dog, Marley, were always the absolute highlight of his day. Billy’s memory will be carried on lovingly by his children, Brandon Price Campbell and his wife Hannah of Churchville, and Cambria Lynn Campbell and her fiancée Kaleb Estis of Staunton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gloria Campbell, extended family Dale and May Donna Smith, and a number of beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Price Campbell; his mother, Rosalee Shirkey Campbell; his brother, David Ruckman Campbell; and his infant granddaughters, Audrey Grace and Georgia Alice Campbell. A private family service will be held per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s honor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at mda.org (P.O. Box 7410354 Chicago, IL 60674-0354). Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
