Carol Carr Pollock
Carol Carr Pollock (née Carol Capen Carr), 78, of Batesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Carol grew up in San Marino, California, with several years spent living and studying in Europe, where she developed her lifelong love of good food and travel. Carol graduated from Pitzer College and later earned a master's degree at the University of Virginia. While UVA brought her to Virginia, the changing seasons and natural beauty made her stay.
Carol was incredibly clever, could figure out just about anything she set her mind to, and was never one to sit still. Over the years, she earned a master's degree while raising children, designed and built two homes, opened a gourmet food store, ran a small family farm, taught elementary school, and spoke three languages fluently. But of all the things she accomplished, she was most proud of her children.
Retirement didn't slow Carol down. She enjoyed sharing her passions with others, whether working in the tasting room of a small winery, serving as a librarian in local schools, or volunteering with the Albemarle SPCA and Habitat for Humanity. But of all the ways she spent her time, nothing brought her more joy than being a grandmother.
Carol will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, a mischievous streak, and a willingness to use a little colorful language when the occasion called for it. She loved nature—whether gardening, hiking in the forest, or body surfing in the ocean—her pets, and especially music. Above all, she loved her family, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Regency Senior Living, Hospice of the Piedmont, Hospice of the Shenandoah, and especially Shenandoah House, for the professionalism and compassion they showed Carol and her family. They are also deeply grateful to the many friends and caregivers whose kindness, love, and support meant so much during the final years.
Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. For those wishing to honor Carol's memory, the family suggests making a donation to Hospice of the Piedmont, Hospice of the Shenandoah, or Shenandoah House.
