William "Bill" Clayton Botkin
William “Bill” Clayton Botkin, 85, widower of Patricia Ann “Patty” (Lambert) Whitesel Botkin of Weyers Cave, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at his residence. Mr. Botkin was born on April 14, 1941, in Highland County, Virginia, a son of the late Hugh Actles Botkin and Ethel McCray Botkin. Bill found some of his greatest joys in the great outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking in the beauty of nature. When he was able, he also enjoyed tending to his garden. Known affectionately as “Wild Bill,” he embraced the nickname with pride. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan, especially when it came to cheering on his favorite driver, Bill Elliott. Whether enjoying the outdoors or watching a race, Bill had a way of making the things he loved a memorable part of who he was. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Botkin; and a brother, Clarence Botkin. He is survived by two sons, Dwayne (Sheila) Botkin of Staunton and Joey Botkin (Crissy) of Churchville; daughters, Dawn Botkin of Harrisonburg, Rachel Whitesel of Verona and Kassi Raynes of Bridgewater; grandchildren, Austin Brown, Jayden Raynes, Kaelynn and Kylee Shifflett, Greyson Brown, Colson Brown, Leland Botkin, Jacob Collins and Jody Collins, and Cody, Cara, and Casey Gailey. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt. Sidney, Virginia. Active pallbearers will be Austin Brown, Allen Losh, Jayden Raynes, Jeff Hassler, Hook Elkins, and Mike Thorne. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
