David Ralph Smith

David Ralph Smith, 70, of Buena Vista, VA (formerly of Broadway, VA) passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Shenandoah Valley Health & Rehab.

He was born on February 18, 1956 and was a son of the late Robert and Ina (Dove) Smith.

David had worked as a painter. He loved to fish, watch football and was an avid fan of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart. David liked going to Burger King for a Whopper, and received his spiritual nurishment daily reading his Bible.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine Hewitt & husband Robert; granddaughter, Eva May; two sisters, Ina Karen Cook and Sue Gery; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers & sisters, Robert M. Smith, Ronald Smith, Eva Mae Rodeffer, Helen Josephine Smith, Harold D. Smith, Nida Kay Caplinger, Paul C. Smith, Merl L. Smith, and John Lee Smith.

A service celebrating David's life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater. Burial will follow at Sangerville Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
